The buildings were fully completed in 2002 and the project was shortlisted for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2004. According to the architects, the design aims at presenting an innovative interpretation of the Libyan heritage and its Islamic architecture, exploiting new and meaningful forms of expression in a way that could serve as a model for future buildings in the region."Africa: Big Changes Big Chances" is on display at Triennale di Milano until 28th December 2014.
