Competition for the Ravirata Area in Vaasa won by Mandaworks and Hosper Sweden

Mandaworks and Hosper Sweden win open urban planning competition for the Ravirata area in Vaasa, Finland. The competition, the programme of which was to study the land use for a new housing district on a former trotting course of 16,7 ha, received 63 entries. The winning team behind the victorious entry named Inside Outside Vaasa are Martin Arfalk, Patrick Verhoeven, Nicholas Bigelow, Andrei Deacu, Chuhan Zhang, Maria Gregorio, Carlos Dias and Monica Liocaite.The jury members nominated by the Finnish Association of Architects were architect SAFA Johanna Vuorinen and architect SAFA Valtteri Heinonen. According to the jury, the quality of submitted entries were of high standard and the competition, which  received a lot of interest and attention, yielded a wide range of possible solutions derived from the local urban structure and history.The other prizes went to Finland. The 2nd prize was awarded to Petri Laaksonen; 3rd prize to Adalbert Aapola and Jarkko Kettunen / Arkkitehtitoimisto Ajak Oy; and the four honorary mentions to Jari Lonka / L Arkkitehdit Oy, Perttu Pulkka, professor Reijo Jallinoja, and Heikki Muntola.[caption id="attachment_1258" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]Rendering of the future Ravirata area designed by Mandaworks + Hosper Sweden.
