Alvar Aalto Researchers’ Network Seminar – “Reinterpretation”

Alvar Aalto Academy
Aalto Researchers’ Network Seminar 2026 explores reinterpretation in architecture, inviting experts to rethink Aalto’s legacy and modern built environments through multidisciplinary dialogue.
The Alvar Aalto Researchers’ Network Seminar 2026 invites you on an inspiring journey into the reinterpretation of architecture. The seminar highlights today’s most compelling discussions on how Alvar Aalto’s architecture and the modern built environment can be viewed from fresh perspectives – honouring the past while boldly envisioning the future.
This event offers a unique platform for new viewpoints, scientific curiosity and multidisciplinary exchange.
The programme is built around three themes:
- Concepts – evolving architectural concepts, vocabularies and theoretical frameworks
- Buildings – re-evaluating buildings in light of new uses and sustainability challenges
- People – the stories of designers and renewed biographical approaches from new angles
The seminar brings together around 40 international speakers, challenging established narratives and opening new horizons for Aalto research and contemporary architectural inquiry. Conversations weave together past, present and future – and it is in these intersections that the seminar’s most compelling insights emerge.
The event week culminates in two architectural excursions:
- A guided tour of Säynätsalo Town Hall on 5 May
- A campus tour of the University of Jyväskylä on 6 May
Both destinations are part of Aalto’s internationally significant architectural legacy and candidates for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Be inspired, engage in dialogue and expand your network – join us at an event where bold ideas and fresh interpretations shape the future of architecture.
