"Heavenly Houses" Exhibited at the Atelier

Artworks: Gatekeeper (2025) and Freedom (2025)

Reetta Hiltunen

“Heavenly Houses” is an open-studio event presenting a painting series by visual artist Reetta Hiltunen, inspired by the visual heritage of demolished Jugend and Neo-Renaissance buildings in Helsinki.

In Hiltunen’s figurative works, historical buildings are transformed into human figures whose festive garments are composed of lost architectural details and iconic rooftop elements.

The series explores the value of cultural heritage, memory, and disappearance. The fates of culturally and historically significant buildings, and the urban planning decisions affecting them, continue to spark discussion, even though these structures no longer exist physically and younger generations have never seen them. The theme resonates on both an individual and a collective experience.

Atelier open Monday–Friday, February 2–6, 12–7 pm, and Saturday–Sunday, February 7–8, 12–6 pm.
