Bauhaus Forever

How can we understand the significance of the Bauhaus school today? Director Nico Weber’s essayistic documentary approaches the question through space and materiality. At the core of the film is the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin, home to the world’s largest collection of Bauhaus works and documentation. Currently undergoing extensive renovation, the archive offers the filmmaker and its staff an opportunity to reflect on the significance of Bauhaus and its living legacy.

Weber emphasises that Bauhaus was above all a holistic idea. This raises the question of how the Bauhaus’s 20th-century ambition to shape society through artistic experimentation can be kept alive in today’s political climate.

Nico Weber will be a guest at Espoo Cine and will attend the screening of the film on 28 August.
