New European Bauhaus Festival

Parque de Cinquantenaire at night time

Taking place from 9 to 13 June in Brussels and at satellite locations across Europe and beyond, the New European Bauhaus Festival 2026 will once again bring together policymakers, designers, researchers and citizens to explore how we can shape environments that truly put people first.

The biennial festival showcases the most compelling practices emerging from the New European Bauhaus, the European Commission’s initiative connecting the green transition with the quality of our built environments and everyday lives. It aims to inspire communities to rethink spaces, create better living environments and advance sustainability, inclusivity and beauty.

Finnish participation in the Festival programme includes:

Aalto University's exhibition

NEB Fair

The exhibition The Pathfinders: Overcoming circular economy bottlenecks showcases research that addresses the bottlenecks of circular economy through material experiments and innovations. The exhibition gives concrete examples.

"The theory of circular economy makes sense but in reality only about 7% of the world economy functions 'circularly.' Why? Because circular economy implementation is very difficult. Luckily, researchers, designers and businesses are working to put circular economy theory into practice. At Aalto University Finland they are called The Pathfinders. Examples of how circular economy becomes reality: in textiles, the built environment and lithium batteries will showcase their work."

University of Oulu at the NEBULE stand

NEB Fair, stand 18

The international research project Art of Darkness, coordinated by the Oulu School of Architecture at the University of Oulu, will present its results at the NEBULE stand, where ten Horizon Europe-funded projects will share their concepts, methods and experiences related to the co-creation of cultural heritage.

The Art of Darkness as Cultural Heritage of Urban Landscape project explores the role of darkness as part of cultural heritage sites. Launched in early 2025, the research project brings together researchers, cities, and creative professionals from across Europe. Over its three-year duration, the project will implement five artistic pilot experiments through co-creation at cultural heritage sites in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, and Italy. Based on these experiments, the project will develop operational models for lighting design in culturally valuable contexts.
