When a building is demolished, part of the city's memory disappears with it. How should we respond to a modern building slated for demolition, such as the commercial building on Kasarmitori? Does it belong to the continuum of cultural heritage, as part of the urban fabric? The discussion examines demolition from the perspective of built heritage, the disappearance of urban history, and its layers. What do we lose when the layers of modern architecture are erased, and who decides what is worth preserving?

Demolition is not only a question concerning the built environment, but an ecosystemic one: what happens to biodiversity when buildings and their surroundings disappear? The discussion brings together perspectives from nature conservation and landscape architecture on the environmental impacts of demolition and new construction.
