Oulu Innovation Playground – Aaltosiilo

An NEB-festival satellite event will be held in Oulu, called Innovation Playground. The discussion event taking place online and in person will concentrate on the future developments of Meri-Toppila and Aaltosiilo.
Oulu Innovative Playground is an experience sharing event exploring new possibilities in the post-industrial landscape. Key speakers will present their projects to find novel solutions to make a positive change through new technologies and policies and with citizen participation.
The idea is to link these experiences with the on-going development of socially challenging Meri-Toppila neighbourhood in Oulu, Finland. In the core of this development is Aaltosiilo project: an abandoned architectural landmark designed by Alvar Aalto is currently being renovated by Factum Foundation and Skene Catling de la Peña Studio and transformed to a multipurpose building, a future heart of urban village.
After the speeches there will be discussion how the presented experiences could help the development of Meri-Toppila and possible applications for the Aaltosiilo renovation.
Speakers in the event include, Mikko Hauru, Hauru Oy, Elina Yli-Luukko and Kasper Karjalainen, Arctic Construction Cluster and Circular Economy Cluster, Pave Mikkonen, PAVE Arkkitehdit Oy, Janne Pihlajaniemi, University of Oulu Architecture School, Joonatan Hamari, The Nook Project, Johannes Helama, Oulu Future City Center and Jouni Rissanen, Keko Geopolymeerit Oy.
The discussion is moderated by Petri Sirviö of Business Oulu.
