Valo, jää light art path in Pikisaari

Valojaa aod banneri 1920x1080px

The delicate light works of Valo, jää [light, ice/stay] art path draws memories of Pikisaari's past while also reflecting on its future. The art path is part of the official programme of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture.

Valo, jää [light, ice/stay] light art path is built along the rich landscapes of Pikisaari bringing out the quiet and forgotten places of the island. The light art path respects the unique darkness found right at the edge of the city lights.

The works are located along the Pikisaari shoreline path between Vanha villatehdas and the Korkeasaari bridge and visible daily from 6 to 11 pm (in March from 6:30 pm). There is no parking space in the immediate vicinity of the trail, so it is best to arrive on foot. The trail runs through uneven terrain, and there is no permanent lighting along it. Please, dress according to the changing weather and walking conditions.

The art works presented have been created as part of the Context-specific Light Art continuing education organised by the Art of Darkness as cultural heritage of urban landscape research project coordinated by the University of Oulu, Oulu school of Architecture. The education was led by Henrika Pihlajaniemi and Riikka Vuorenmaa. The light works were created by Meeri Alatalo, Riina Arvela, Päivi Charpentier, Kimmo Hanhela, Rami Hussain, Leena Kangas, Minna Kangasmaa, Jonna Liius, Päivi Paakinaho, Henna Raitala, Joona Räisänen, Heini Seppälä, Kari Södö, Katri Tenetz and Jussi Vikström.
