Arctic NEB: Rooted in the North, Connected to Europe

The Arctic NEB Local Chapter is the first New European Bauhaus Local Chapter in Finland, active since August 2026. The network promotes solutions in creating sustainable and beautiful living environments for all.
The goal of Arctic NEB is to advance sustainability, inclusion, and beauty in northern conditions. In its initial phase, it brings together cultural and creative organisations, educational institutions, municipalities, businesses, and citizens across the Lapland, Northern Ostrobothnia, and Kainuu regions.
Acting as a collaborative platform, the Chapter fosters resilient communities, sustainable environments, cultural heritage, innovation, and citizen participation through co-design. The Arctic NEB Local Chapter builds on the legacy of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture.
Rooted in northern Finland, the Chapter links with Arctic partners to share northern perspectives with the New European Bauhaus community.
The six founding partners of the Arctic NEB Local Chapter are Aaltosiilo, Arctic Construction Cluster, Arctic Factory, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Oulu University of Applied Sciences, and Proto – Designers of Northern Finland. The co-coordinator of the Chapter are Päivi Tahkokallio of Proto and Valentino Tignanelli of Aaltosiilo.
What is the New European Bauhaus
The New European Bauhaus unites innovation, ambition, and creativity, inviting all Europeans to shape a sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful future. Since its launch, the initiative has sparked a powerful grassroots movement, engaging member states, regions, and municipalities across the EU and beyond.
This engagement has resulted in a vibrant NEB Community of nearly 2,000 members, spanning non-profits, businesses, and public authorities. To date, nearly 700 research, regional and urban renewal, skill-building, and cultural projects have translated these core values into reality. Read more about NEB at the EU website.
