Archinfo Finland’s summer campaign calls for photos of happy encounters between old and new architecture

How do buildings of different ages interact? What makes a new building fit in its surroundings? Can modern addition respect or even ennoble a historical cityscape?

Archinfo Finland’s summer campaign highlights examples of happy co-living of old and new in Finnish architecture. We call for photos of projects where a younger building takes its neighbours into account to form successful architectural encounters.

Take part in the campaign by posting your photo on your Instagram account with a short description of why this is a good example and the hashtag #ArchitecturalEncounters. Remember to include the name of the photographer and the place where the photo was taken and, if known, the name of the architect and the year of completion.

You may also attend via email by sending your suggestion to editor@archinfo.fi.

We will repost the best photos on Archinfo Finland’s Instagram account @archinfo_finland. The collected data is also used for creating a selection published on the Finnish Architecture Navigator at navi.finnisharchitecture.fi.

The campaign is open until 20 August 2019, after which we will announce the winning photo. The winner will be awarded The Building of Finland (in English, Swedish or Finnish), an extensive book on the architecture of the 100-years-old welfare state, edited by Harri Hautajärvi and published by Rakennustieto Publishing. The winner will be contacted personally.
